Jackson update

Image
So all is well here in the town of Jackson, WY and this trip was more than worth the drive.  So here is the update of what we have been up to here. Monday we trip to hike up the pass in order to snowshoe around the mountain a bit but that proved more difficult that we had originally planned.  We arrived about half way up the ridge when Zack discovered that poor Lona's paws we not taking to the cold to well, even though she didn't show any discouragement along the way, so we decided to turn back.  The way back was pretty cool though because we went off the beaten path and paralleled the trail down in about 2 and 1/2 feet of powder, but it was more fun that walking up the Mt.  After we left there we swung by the house and tended to Lona for a bit then decided to do a bit of cross country skiing which proved to be a lot of fun and hard work that allowed for some great views. Tuesday we decided we were going to do an overnight trip in the mountains.  So after some plann

I will post something at some point

From our living room. Yesterday (Sunday) was a pretty relaxing day, just trying to recover from the trip out and such.  Zach and I just hung out for a bit and started contemplation what we wanted to do this week and waited for our gracious host Molly to return so we could say "Hi" and such.  Around lunch time we ran into town and I ended up renting a set of cross country skis and boots because the set I had bought haven't arrived yet, and the pair that I borrowed I couldn't rent a set of shoes for.  After that we drove around town exploring a bit, and I tell you what, its such a nice little town/city/whatever you want to call it.  As we were driving around we found a road that led back into the Elk Refuge, and talk about some elk, hence my title to this post.  The road we drove down couldn't have been more than a couple miles long but it had some spectacular views!   View of Jackson Heading back into the Elk Refuge Driving along All those little do

Here are just a couple pictures taken on the road trip out, nothing to exciting but hey how exciting can a 38 hour (or what ever it was) road trip be. What my drive way looked while packing to leave Zach driving Wyoming landscape More Wyoming Our lovely lunch set up in Cheyenne, WY We gave up on driving ourselves so we let the dog have a go. ...I really hope no one thinks the dog was actually driving. Well more to come later on as the week goes.

Made it.

So we finally made it out to Jackson around 8:45 or so this evening local time.  What a trip, it took about 38 or so hours to drive out here from central PA with maybe only about 4 hours total of stopped time. So this is how the trip went... Friday morning we woke up to find about 3 inches of fresh snow on the ground, something that we were not expecting.  Luckily the snow did not affect the start of the trip.  On our way out of PA we stopped briefly in State College, but before that we were stuck on Rt 322 for a period of time because a car had caught fire along the highway, we hoped this wasn't a sign of the journey to come.  Once we made our quick stop in State College we headed to Rt 80 west and set the cruise control and prepared for the long journey ahead.  So Zack took the first two tanks of gas, about 12-13 hours straight.  Along the way we hit some pretty bad snow storms going through Indiana but pushed through to south of Chicago were we stopped, got some more gas and

The Big Road Trip

So Tomorrow myself and good Friend Zach Adams (along with his dog Lona) will be embarking on a cross country journey starting in central Pennsylvania and ending in Jackson Hole Wyoming.  The journey itself should be interesting, google maps says about 30 hours and approximately 2,000 miles, and we are planning on driving straight through.  The plan in order to accomplish this is to have one person sleeping while the other drives and just keeping going till we get there, but some caffeine and good music I'm sure will be in order.  Then we will get out there and do.....well we know what we want to do but don't have an exact plan.  Some ideas include but not limited to; cross country ski, downhill ski, snowshoe, catch some local culture, take some pictures of local wildlife (hopefully some moose), drink some good local beer, and then.....sounds like a plan huh?  I'm defiantly stoked about this trip, its been a long time since I have been out that way and it will be cool if we
