Jackson update

So all is well here in the town of Jackson, WY and this trip was more than worth the drive.  So here is the update of what we have been up to here.

Monday we trip to hike up the pass in order to snowshoe around the mountain a bit but that proved more difficult that we had originally planned.  We arrived about half way up the ridge when Zack discovered that poor Lona's paws we not taking to the cold to well, even though she didn't show any discouragement along the way, so we decided to turn back.  The way back was pretty cool though because we went off the beaten path and paralleled the trail down in about 2 and 1/2 feet of powder, but it was more fun that walking up the Mt.  After we left there we swung by the house and tended to Lona for a bit then decided to do a bit of cross country skiing which proved to be a lot of fun and hard work that allowed for some great views.

Tuesday we decided we were going to do an overnight trip in the mountains.  So after some planning and hiking into the mountains a bit using a snowmobile trail we found a suitable area to start looking for a camp.  We then attached the snowshoes, grabbed the GPS and headed into the woods to find a good spot to set camp.  After a little hunting we found a nice spot and after cutting some wood, making a fire pit, making a place to set up the tent, then set it up, then we had a place to call home for the night.  After the sun set and we had some food in our bellies we decided to head back in to town to our warm beds for the night.  (mind you when we got back into town the temperature was below zero.  The hike out using just the moon light was a cool experience that we wouldn't have normally experienced otherwise.

The next day we decided just to take it easy and hang around in town, run a few errands then after finding out that just about everything in town closes at 6 or 7pm we called it quites and headed back for the night. (Not to exciting but relaxing day non the less).

Now today (Thursday) we decided to give skate skiing a shot and see how we would fare.  Well Zach picked  it up pretty well, and me....not so much.  It was a cool and interesting experience but it is a hard sport to master.  I might give it a shot another time (...wait I think we are going again in the morning).  But tomorrow we pack up and start the long trek back to PA.
